  • Setting up the Bridal Bed

This usually means purchasing a new bed and putting up a brand new red (or auspicious colour) bedsheet. The Bridal bed are not supposed to be used before the wedding day. I also know of some people who would invite a young cute and healthy male relative (usually a toddler) to jump on the bed on an auspicious date prior to the wedding. This is believed to appease the fertility God who will bless the couple with heir allowing the couple to bear a healty baby boy easily. Certain fruits considered to bring good fortune would also be placed on the bridal bed.

  • The Bride's Gifts for the Groom

The bridal gifts would be sent from the groom’s home. These gifts may consist of jewelry, bed linen, clothes. After the bridal bed is made up, it is not to be touched until the wedding day. A whole roasted suckling pig is also presented to the bride as a gift. It is important that the pig is presented completely intact, as a mark of respect for the bride’s family. The suckling pig is a symbol of the bride’s virginity.

  • Combing Hair
The night before the wedding, both the Groom and Bride's families would usually offer some offerings to their ascendents and deities (if applicable) and burnt a symbolic candle known as the 'Dragon Phoenix Candle'. It is supposed to drive away evil spirits with its flame (besides being romantic as well). A man and woman of good fortune will comb the hair of the bride and groom in their respective homes. Good fortune usually means those who have living spouses, many children and grandchildren. This ritual need not be carried for couples who have married before.

The bride’s and groom’s hair is combed four times, each combing carries a  special meaning - from beginning till the end, harmony from now till old age, wishes for sons and grandsons, and wishes for good wealth and a long-lasting marriage.
